Hardiness
The tough South Texas Brush Country is a real test
of hardiness. Our cattle do not have the manicured pastures prevalent in other areas of
the country that are blessed with large amounts of rainfall. They have to scramble to get
something to eat when it is hot and dry.
Supplemental food
is provided at times to calves and
yearling bulls to make certain that they develop properly, but once they are grown,
supplemental feeding is not only too expensive, it was not what was intended when the
Beefmaster breed was developed. They must be hardy to stay at Rancho Tres
Hijos.
